I suffered with Parallels for two years. Long waits and instability were the standard. I often had to wait 10 minutes before Quickbooks would load and often it failed. Support was lame. I switched to VMware and all of those problems went away. Very fast and absolutely amazing. Much faster than my PC.

I have no connections with either provider. Bought VMware from Amazon and I am very happy.

  2. The product installs OK. However, I wanted to run Microsoft Office Products like Outlook and :P ower Point with this product. I found out I needed to install WIndows XP before I could do that. My existing disks from my Windows Machine will not work since they are tied to that machine, So I need to buy a new WIndows XP Software before I can load Microsoft Office. Money,,,,Money,,,Money,…

If I had known before hand I would not have bought Parallels. It will go unused and I will uninstall this product now that Apple has I Works 09 out.

  3. I’ve run Parallels 3 for some time, but when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I had to upgrade to version 4. I bought the upgrade online and tried to install it. The installer said I had a virtual machine I needed to close. I consulted the support troubleshooter on the Parallels website and it recommended a fix that didn’t work. OK, this stuff happens. I tried to report the failure through their online system and it won’t accept it. Time for a talk. The phone numbers listed directed me through the usual maize and then disconnected me. I dug a little deeper and found other contact numbers that were out of service. Finally, I checked my PayPal account for a contact number. This connected me to a pleasant woman who explained that her company, Digital River, only collected the money for Element 5, the publisher of Parallels. I asked if she could refund my purchase. She did.

I’m going out today to buy a cheap PC. I’d rather spend more money for another computer than deal with Parallels ever again

  4. Whatever you do, do not give Nova Development, the creators of Parallels, the chance to mess with you, misdirect you, ignore you, etc. I have never had an experience like this with a software company. They are far worse than even Microsoft if you can believe that. You’ll go the Nova site and use the number listed there and then that number will tell you to call this number and then that is the wrong department and then they’ll misdirect you, etc. Argh!!!

And then on top of the wasted hours of trying to get help from Nova, the product itself is slow and slightly buggy. And then they make it impossible to take advantage of the 90 day money back guarantee. In other words, save yourself the pain and anguish and buy a different program.

  5. I loaded Parallels and imported VM Fusion virtual machine. Could not add a printer because of Spooler issues. After trying everything Windows related I decided it must be Parallels. Could get no customer service. Disgusted, I have been trying for two days to figure out how to take advantage of the 90 Day Money Back Guarantee. No address, no information on website. Simply no support . . . Might be a simple fix to the underlying problem but I will never know it.
